The Journey Through the Past We Should Never Forget

March of the Living 2023

We would like to share with you the moving and significant journey that our 28 students and 4 teachers just completed as part of the “March of the Living Educational program”. We are proud to have represented Romania as the official delegation.

Our students went through an intense preparation, and their excitement and pride for this journey was evident throughout. When we arrived, we had a tour guide who helped us navigate through the complex historical sites that we saw coming to life right before our eyes.

We visited the Jewish ghettos, saw remaining historical sites, and heard the stories of righters among the nations like Schindler and heroes such as Janusz Korczak and the brave fighters of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, which happened exactly 80 years ago.

An important part of our journey was visiting the Auschwitz death camp, where we were deeply moved by the tragic history that unfolded before us. It was a profound educational, emotional and personal experience.

What made this journey even more memorable was marching shoulder to shoulder with thousands of people from around the world, from the United States, Japan, Canada, France, and many other countries. We had the opportunity of sharing this trip with a delegation from the Jewish school of Athens Greece, which enriched our experience of togetherness and internationalism.

Every evening, we had discussions that helped the students process everything they had been through and get closer to one another. We talked about leadership qualities like empathy, collaboration, communication skills, decision-making, teamwork, vision, and positive attitude, which are crucial for becoming successful leaders in life.

We also had moments of experiencing deep connection singing together
and strengthening one another.

Overall, our students came back much more united, with a wider perspective about life and a deeper understanding of the importance of tolerance, empathy, and respect for others. We are proud of the educational work that we invested in this trip, and we are confident that our students have gained invaluable life experiences that will
shape them into better leaders in the future.

Thank you to the committed and devoted teachers that made this Journey happen:  Mrs. Anca Mândru, Mrs. Andreea Alter, Mr. Dan Șandru!!!
